The ultimate Gold Coast summer-time bucket list

November 30, 2020

Everyone needs a summer-time bucket list. You know, a list with all those fantastic things that you’d like to do with family and friends when on holiday. We’ve compiled a list of eight fab things to do this summer combining activities that can be enjoyed if you are on holiday, or just spending a short break away, at Bel Air on Broadbeach, on the Gold Coast.

1 – Hit the beach like a local

Making the top of our list is of course spending time at the beach. Gold Coast beaches are renowned the world over … white sand, warm azure water, seashells to collect, and loads of sand to be squished between your toes. Mix it up with leisurely walks along the foreshore, building sandcastles, splashing in the waves or watching sunset colours play on the waves at dusk. Don’t forget to take a towel, sunscreen, water and to only swim in the patrolled section of the beach between the red and yellow flags. With Broadbeach literally at your doorstep you can hit the beach for a swim morning, noon and in the early evening.

2 – Take a trip to Miami

That’s right, take a trip to Miami. Just 6 minutes’ drive south from Bel Air on Broadbeach is Miami Marketta, which is an outdoor market boasting a sensational mix of street foods representing cuisines from all over the world, boutique wines and beer, live entertainment and concerts, fun events and a very funky vibe. Weave your way through the lane ways until you discover something delicious that captures your eye or sit and enjoy the vibe. You’ll even find flamingos standing guard at the entrance! The markets are open every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 5pm. Be sure to check out the link for live music and events.

3 – Climb to the ‘top of the world’

Well it may not exactly be the top of the world but with a climb at the Q1s SkyPoint Observation Deck you’ll find yourself at the highest point on the Gold Coast. This residential building is the highest in the world, boasts 360 degree views and is the perfect place to take some amazing panoramic photos of the coast and mountains. You can even grab a bite to eat or enjoy a cocktail after your climb!

4 – Float amongst the clouds

Hot air ballooning is one of those things that should be experienced at least once in a lifetime. Imaging floating over the Gold Coast as free as a bird in a hot air balloon as the sun rises over the ocean. You may even be able to spot Bel Air on Broadbeach as depending on the wind direction, the balloon fly’s over Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. This 45 minute experience even includes a photo and optional hotel transfers. Don’t forget to wave.

5 – Enjoy some amazing rides

A Gold Coast summer-time bucket list isn’t complete without a visit to the Gold Coast theme parks: Sea World, Dream World and Movie World. Plus, perfect for a hot summer day Wet’N’Wild and White Water World. These parks are for big and small kids of all ages with their amazing rides, shows and entertainment. You really will have the time of your life and come away with some special memories and stories to share. It takes a couple of days to experience these parks so it’s worth considering one of the different passes on offer.

6 – Shop ‘til you drop

Shake off the sand and spend the day wandering around the Pacific Fair Shopping Centre. This is no ordinary shopping centre and is an experience in itself. It has more than 350 stores, everything from luxury brands through to high end to casual clothing chain stores, loads of food outlets, a massive food court AND a casual dining area that boasts a range of restaurants serving up scrumptious food, from fresh seafood through to indulgent desserts. There are enormous, comfy indoor and outdoor seats where you can flop down and relax, an Event Cinema complex that has a 4DX cinema featuring high tech moving seats and special effects, and an ever-changing array of events for kids and adults. Pacific Fair is open seven days a week and just a short walk across the road from Bel Air on Broadbeach. Enjoy!

7 – Fly like a bird…

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to fly without having to jump out of a plane? Well you can at the ultra-safe Gold Coast Indoor skydiving centre. You’ll be lifted into flight inside a giant glass tunnel by a column of air for 50 seconds, which is the equivalent the free falling part of a skydive from 14,000 feet! Wave to friends and family as they look on from a 360 degree viewing platform. Choose from 2 or 4 indoor skydiving flights, enjoy loads of instruction, a flight suit and a helping hand along the way. With a 3 years or older age limit, this really is for everyone.

8 – Meet some locals

Meet some of the locals at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. This incredible animal sanctuary is spread out over 27 hectares and is renowned as being the Gold Coast’s best wildlife park. You can spend the day meeting all kinds of Australian native animals such as koalas, kangaroos, dingoes, wombats and Tasmanian Devils and an array of exotic wildlife from overseas in wide-open enclosures, in displays and up-close-and-personal in photos. There are amazing shows and presentations, and even a range of dining experiences where you can enjoy a snack, ice-cream or full meal while you watch the furry and feathered inhabitants. Don’t forget to book before you go.
